Our human bodies contain a endocannabinoid system, a system that lies over or interfaces with all of the other systems throughout your entire body. Overall a well-functioning ECS works to bring your internal system into balance.  The ECS regulates both physical functions such as movement, pain sensation, immune responses, and cognitive or mental functions, like perception, mood, and memory.  The endocannabinoid system modulates different systems in your body, including the release of hormones related to stress and even reproductive functions such as fertility.  The technical term for this type of balance within the human body is called homeostasis.  Your enndocannabinoid system is key to establishing and maintaining your overall health and well being.

There are three parts that make up your endocannabinoid system.

-Receptors that detect molecules outside of cells and activate signals inside the cells.

-Endocannabinoids-the human bodies internal cannabinoids

-Enzymes, technically called degradative enzymes, that break down our endocannabinoids after they perform a particular function, like reducing anxiety

Both CB1 and CB2 receptors: Locks unlocked by cannabis

Both CB1 and CB2 receptors are located throughout our bodies. The cannabis plant or CBD targets theses receptors, it stands to reason that cannabis can work as a medicine. Think of the CB1 and CB2 receptors as locks within the body. So what are the keys that unlock these receptors to enhance physiological functions?  The keys are both naturally occuring endocannabinoids in our ECS as well as phytocannabinoids within the cannabis plant.
